Costco is recalling organic eggs sold under its Kirkland Signature brand due to potential contamination with salmonella. Approximately 10,800 cartons of 24-count eggs were sold in 25 stores across Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee. The affected eggs have a Julian code of 327 and a “use by” date of Jan. 6, 2025.
The recall was initiated after it was discovered that eggs not intended for retail were packaged and distributed in retail packaging. Handsome Brook Farms, the company behind the eggs, is implementing additional supply chain controls and retraining to prevent such incidents in the future. There have been no reported illness complaints related to the affected eggs.
Consumers are urged to stop consuming the eggs and return them to their local Costco store for a full refund, or dispose of the product. The recall is being done in cooperation with the FDA to ensure the safety of consumers. No other products are affected by the recall, and measures are being taken to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
