A federal judge has denied Rudy Giuliani’s request to postpone court proceedings regarding the handover of his assets to former Georgia election workers he defamed. The judge rejected Giuliani’s argument that he needed to attend Donald Trump’s inauguration as president, stating that his social calendar was not a valid reason for a delay. Giuliani’s lawyer argued that he had a political right to be at Trump’s inaugural events, but the judge did not agree.
During the hearing, Giuliani became irate, claiming that he could not pay his bills due to his assets being tied up in the defamation case. He accused the judge of making false implications against him and said that he had no car, credit card, or cash. Giuliani has dragged his feet on surrendering his assets to the women who won a defamation judgment against him. He has turned over some belongings, such as a Mercedes-Benz, but has not handed over everything requested.
The trial, set to take place days before Trump’s inauguration, will focus on whether Giuliani must surrender his condo in Palm Beach, Florida, and his four World Series rings. He is appealing both the asset turnover order and the defamation verdict. Giuliani continues to falsely accuse the women of ballot tampering, leading to further legal action. After the hearing, Giuliani lashed out at the judge and maintained that he does not regret defaming the women.
