Gas prices in Utah have dropped below the national average just in time for Thanksgiving travel, providing relief for drivers as they hit the road for the holiday. According to AAA’s fuel price index, the average price for a gallon of regular gasoline in Utah is now $3.05, two cents lower than the national average. This decline is attributed to the decrease in driving during the winter months and the production of a cheaper “winter blend.”
The national average gas price has also been trending downward, with the potential to drop below $3 for the first time since 2021. This decrease in gas prices is expected to motivate nearly 72 million Americans to travel at least 50 miles during the Thanksgiving holiday week. While travel costs remain high, the drop in gas prices may encourage more people to hit the road.
AAA Utah spokesperson Julian Paredes emphasized that the cost of travel is still significant but is gradually decreasing, making it more affordable for consumers. The organization estimates that more people will choose to drive this holiday season due to the lower gas prices.
