Innovative Technology Revealed by Galesburg Companies

Galesburg manufacturing company Pegasus celebrated its 10th anniversary by introducing a new technology called wire laser metal deposition. This technology allows for the printing of machine parts with multiple materials, such as titanium and copper, which can be used in medical implants. The CEO, Ray Whitehead, highlighted the benefits of using copper in implants to reduce the threat of staph infection by 87%.

The open house event attracted a large crowd, including Knox College student Johnathan Marsten, who was impressed by the dual metal printing capabilities of the machine. Pegasus, which started with three employees in 2014, has since grown and now provides vocational training to 270 high school students in the area.

The company’s success has been recognized as an economic win for Galesburg, with its CNC machines producing parts for major companies like Toyota, General Motors, and SpaceX. Pegasus and its sister company Jupiter plan to expand to accommodate the growing demand for their products.

Overall, the development of this new technology and the success of Pegasus and Jupiter showcase the potential for manufacturing innovation in the Galesburg area. The companies have not only created new job opportunities but also helped to rekindle vocational technology education in the community. The support from organizations like Tri States Public Radio has been crucial in sharing the story of these local businesses and their impact on the region.
