Smith Entertainment Group, the owner of the Utah Hockey Club and Utah Jazz, has a three-year plan to renovate the Delta Center to accommodate both hockey and basketball games. The current obstructed-view seats will be removed, and the arena will be transformed into a great hockey venue while maintaining a fantastic basketball atmosphere. The capacity for the 2024-25 season will be 11,131, and up to 5,000 single-goal view seats will be available for high-demand games.
The Salt Lake City Council has approved a participation agreement with SEG for the creation of a downtown sports, entertainment, culture, and convention district. This agreement includes a sales tax increase to generate funding for the renovation of the Delta Center and other district improvements. The renovation is expected to cost $525 million and will be completed by 2027.
Despite the initial challenges with obstructed-view seats, the Utah Hockey Club had no problem selling season tickets. They received overwhelming support when the team website went live to start taking deposits, ultimately selling more than 34,000 season ticket deposits. The team aims to engage fans through their new training center in Sandy, where they can interact with the team and learn about hockey on a daily basis.
The renovation of the Delta Center and the development of the new training facility reflect SEG’s commitment to making Utah a hub for sports and entertainment. With the strong support from the community, the Utah Hockey Club is set to become a prominent sports franchise in the state.
