Utah State women’s tennis had a successful performance at the Gonzaga Invite over the weekend, with senior Cielo Tapia-Cruz and freshman Kylee Sperry claiming a consolation doubles title. Junior Olivia Halvorsen also emerged victorious in a tight singles consolation final, defeating teammate junior Magdalena Nunez Pureco.
In the main draw, Ana Sabikova reached the singles final but narrowly lost to Gonzaga’s Ella Nielsen. In doubles, Sabikova and Natalie Paterova reached the finals but were defeated by Portland’s Meagan Pearson and Nadine Arbaizar Martinez.
The invite, which took place from October 25 to 27, featured competition from schools like Seattle, Portland, and Gonzaga. Utah State secured wins on the first day in both singles and doubles play. Sabikova and Paterova had a strong showing, with Sabikova making it to the singles final.
On the final day, Halvorsen clinched the singles consolation title, while Tapia-Cruz and Sperry won the doubles consolation title. With the conclusion of this weekend’s invite, the Aggies wrapped up their fall season and will begin their dual competition season in January 2025.
