A man posing as a utility worker to gain entrance to a Michigan home has been charged with murdering a man and tying up his wife in a “gruesome” attack. Carlos Jose Hernandez, 37, was arrested in Louisiana and charged with felony murder and unlawful imprisonment. Doorbell camera footage showed Hernandez and another man claiming to be from a local energy company, with fake ID badges and a phony work order. The second man is still at large. The victim, Hussein Murray, 72, was found dead in his basement with his wrists and ankles duct-taped. His wife managed to call 911 after being tied up and assaulted. The suspects are believed to have targeted the house due to prior knowledge of valuables. Prosecutors have authorized the highest charges for this brutal crime, including felony murder punishable by life without parole. DTE Energy warned residents to ask for photo ID before letting anyone claiming to be from the company into their homes. Investigators believe the suspects may have also been involved in an armed robbery in Ohio. The family of the victim is heartbroken, but resolved to bond together through the tragedy.
