Southern Utah quarterback Justin Lambson and wide receiver Landen Measom were the dynamic duo that led their team to victory in a 42-21 win over Eastern Kentucky on Saturday. Lambson ran for three touchdowns while Measom caught two touchdown passes and had over 100 receiving yards.
Lambson’s running ability was on full display as he quickly put his team ahead with a 12-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. He continued to rack up yards on the ground, finishing with 112 rushing yards and three touchdowns. His ability to extend plays with his legs kept Eastern Kentucky’s defense on their toes all game.
Not to be outdone, Southern Utah’s backup quarterback Randall Johnson also had a standout performance, throwing for three touchdowns and over 200 passing yards in relief of starter Tyler Skidmore. Johnson connected with Measom twice for touchdowns, showcasing the chemistry between the two players.
Eastern Kentucky kept the game close in the first half, with quarterback Parker McKinney throwing for over 300 yards and two touchdowns. But Southern Utah’s defense stepped up in the second half, limiting Eastern Kentucky’s offensive production and forcing turnovers to seal the victory.
Southern Utah head coach DeMario Warren praised his team’s resilience and ability to execute in key moments. “Our guys played hard and made plays when they needed to,” Warren said after the game. “We have a lot of talent on this team, and when we play together and focus on executing, we can compete with anyone.”
The win improves Southern Utah’s record to 2-1 on the season, with the team set to face Sacramento State next week in another tough matchup. Meanwhile, Eastern Kentucky falls to 1-2 and will look to bounce back in their next game against Indiana State.
