The Chicago White Sox made history with their 121st loss of the season, breaking the MLB record set by the New York Mets in 1962. Despite winning the AL Central division in 2021, the White Sox have been on a decline, winning only 81 games in 2022 and 61 last season. They have won just 36 games so far this season.
Offensive struggles have plagued the team, as they rank near the bottom in major statistical categories, including hits, runs, home runs, batting average, RBI, total bases, OBP, and slugging percentage. First baseman Andrew Vaughn leads the team with a .248 batting average.
The season started poorly for the White Sox with a 3-22 record, the worst 25-game start in franchise history. They also lost 21 consecutive games, setting a new franchise record and becoming the first team since 1988 to lose at least 21 games in a row. Despite winning nine games each in May and June, the team only managed to win seven games combined in July and August.
Overall, the White Sox’s struggles have been marked by their inability to generate offense and secure wins consistently throughout the season. With only six games left, they are looking to finish the season on a more positive note.
