Israel conducted new airstrikes in Beirut, resulting in explosions in the southern suburbs of the Lebanese capital. The Israeli military warned residents to evacuate before conducting the strikes. As a result, at least six people were killed and nearly 100 were injured in the attack. The strikes were aimed at Hezbollah targets in Beirut’s southern suburbs, with the IDF confirming that they were targeting weapons belonging to the Hezbollah terrorist organization stored beneath civilian buildings.
The situation in Beirut remains tense, with further strikes expected in the coming days. In response to the Israeli attacks, protests have erupted outside the luxury hotel of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in New York City, where he was attending the UN General Assembly. Demonstrators condemned Netanyahu’s handling of the conflict and called for the return of Israeli hostages held by Hamas.
In light of the escalating violence, US President Joe Biden has directed the Pentagon to assess and adjust American forces in the Middle East to enhance deterrence and ensure force protection. The Israeli airstrikes in Beirut come amid ongoing hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah, raising concerns about further escalation in the region.
