Former President Donald Trump has pledged to prioritize American workers and industry by implementing measures like huge tariffs on imports and lowering the corporate tax rate for companies that produce in the United States. Trump’s opponent, Vice President Kamala Harris, wants to raise the corporate tax rate instead.
While Trump’s plans aim to create jobs and boost US industry, economists warn that tariffs could raise prices for consumers. Trump has not provided specifics about his proposals, such as whether his tax cuts would apply to companies that assemble products domestically from imports.
Despite his promises to attract foreign investment and bring manufacturing jobs back to the US, Trump’s track record during his presidency was mixed. For example, a promised $10 billion investment by Foxconn in Wisconsin never materialized. Trump’s plan to offer access to federal land as an incentive for foreign companies faces challenges due to restrictions.
Trump’s campaign did not clarify whether companies from China would be excluded from his plans, given his criticism of the country’s impact on US business. Meanwhile, Trump’s appearance in Georgia, a key battleground state, comes amid growing political competition. Harris recently campaigned in Atlanta, criticizing Trump’s policies and highlighting issues like access to abortion.
Despite tensions with Georgia Governor Brian Kemp, Trump received support from local Republicans, including Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene and Lieutenant Governor Burt Jones. As the election approaches, both Trump and Harris are ramping up their efforts to win over voters in the swing state.
