Less than 24 hours after CNN published a report on controversial comments attributed to Mark Robinson, the Republican candidate for governor of North Carolina, the Democratic National Committee launched new advertisements tying him to former President Donald Trump. The DNC plans to release a digital ad and billboards connecting Robinson to Trump, in an attempt to sway support away from Trump in the state. North Carolina is considered a crucial battleground state, and Trump’s running mate, Sen. JD Vance, indicated it would be challenging to win without North Carolina. The advertisements aim to highlight Trump’s praise for Robinson, with billboards featuring a picture of them together and quotes of Trump lauding Robinson. Robinson has denied the allegations made by CNN, who reported on racist and antisemitic comments he allegedly made on a pornography website. Trump has endorsed Robinson for governor, calling him an “outstanding” politician. The DNC views Trump and Robinson as extremists who share similar views on issues like abortion and election denials. Democrats have directed resources towards North Carolina in hopes of flipping the state, as polling shows a close race between Harris and Trump. Multiple rallies have been held in the state, indicating its importance in the upcoming election.
