New York City Weather Forecast: Strong Storm Expected to Bring Heavy Rain and Wind from Sunday to Monday

A powerful storm is set to hit the Tri-State area, with forecasters predicting heavy rain, high winds, and the potential for flooding. Flood watches are in effect across the region, with areas such as Queens, Brooklyn, and Long Island under a high-wind watch. New York City Mayor Eric Adams has issued a travel advisory for Sunday into Monday, urging residents to prepare for potential impacts. Governor Kathy Hochul also urged New Yorkers to prepare for the storm, which could bring snow to parts of the state.
MTA Bridges and Tunnels has implemented a “soft ban” on empty tractor-trailers and tandem trucks, and PSE&G has warned residents to secure outdoor holiday decorations due to the strong winds expected. The storm, which is expected to bring heavy rain and gusty winds, could result in power outages, flooding, and property damage. As the storm clears out, colder air will follow, with temperatures returning to near or slightly below the historical average for early December.
AccuWeather has issued an AccuWeather Alert ahead of the storm, with rainfall totals predicted to range from 1.5 to 3 inches across the area, and parts of Long Island could see over 4 inches if the storm intensifies. The storm is expected to bring powerful gusts ranging from 40-50 mph and could cause street, urban, and coastal flooding. The temperature range across the region on Monday could vary by 30 degrees, with readings in the 30s in some areas and 60s on Long Island.
Residents are urged to stay informed about the storm’s progress and to download the AccuWeather app for the latest weather updates.
