Former iCarly star, Jennette McCurdy, recently opened up about a terrifying experience she had in the past with the prescription medication, Accutane. The actress had been taking the medication to treat acne, when she thought she might be pregnant. McCurdy detailed the experience on her Hard Feelings podcast, recalling that she had to visit her dermatologist for checkups and monthly bloodwork due to the medication. After three months, she received a call from her doctor informing her that she might be pregnant. McCurdy was shocked and terrified at the news, but after undergoing another blood test, it was determined that she was not pregnant. The entire experience was “so terrifying,” she said, that she decided to stop taking the medication, despite its effectiveness in treating acne. Accutane is known to cause birth defects in up to 35 percent of infants who are exposed during pregnancy, prompting the medication’s website to warn that patients who are pregnant or planning to become pregnant “must not” take the medication. McCurdy’s harrowing experience sheds light on the serious risks associated with prescription medications and the importance of understanding and adhering to their warnings.
