Len Goodman Trophy quickly took over the discussions on social media on Tuesday night after Dancing with the Stars judge Derek Hough came close to tears while praising contestant Xochitl Gomez for her Waltz with partner Val Chmerkovskiy. This was shortly followed by news that Gomez was the first person to receive perfect scores from the judges on both of her dances of the night. The 17-year-old was the only contestant of the night to receive perfect scores. After a breathtaking performance, the judges had nothing but praise for her, with Bruno Tonioli saying, “There is dancing and there is artistry. You have an amazing future in front of you.” After receiving such high praise and the perfect scores she was through to the Dancing With the Stars season 32 finale without fear of elimination.
The episode was particularly emotional due to tributes to the late judge Len Goodman whose legacy was celebrated after his passing earlier in the year. Along with the introduction of the new trophy in his honor and a tribute dance performed by former professional dancers, the episode included a lot of raw emotion from that also affected the attendees and fans at home.
As the announcement was made that every contestant was through to the finale, it was bittersweet as it was one step closer to the end of the season. With the Dancing With the Stars season 32 finale set to air on Tuesday, December 5, at 8 p.m. ET, many are expecting emotions to be running higher than normal.
